Polar Explorers

The Fourth International Polar Year was launched in March 2007 and runs to March 2009 to allow for two field seasons at both Poles. Falkland Islands released a set of four postage stamps depicting four famous polar explorers.

Nordenskiöld

Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld, the famous Finnish-born scientist and explorer, is the subject of a miniature sheet with two 1st class non-value indicator stamps to be issued on 20 October 2008. A Norwegian-born Swede Martin Mörck designed these stamps.

On 1 August 2008 a new definitive series on Falkland Islands was released, comprising of twelve new stamps depicting airplanes that flew above the Falkland Islands.

Waltari and Räikkönen

On 5 September 2008, a total of 11 new postage stamps were issued in four separate issues in Finland. Two of the issues are miniature sheets. One of them celebrates author Mika Waltari, who was born a century ago this year, and the other honors the 2007 Formula One World Champion, Kimi Räikkönen.

Dutch postal transport

In 1806 The Netherlands were occupied by France. As a result the postal service was reorganised and rebuild to French model. The organisation of postal transport also changed.

Vulcan Bomber

Had it not been for the Falklands war in 1982 the Vulcan would have flown for its entire service life without ever dropping a bomb in anger. Although the primary weapon for the Vulcan was nuclear, it could carry up to 21 x 1000 lb bombs and 30 years after its maiden flight the Vulcan was able to successfully complete what was to become the longest successful combat flight in history (until the 15t Gulf War).

Rowland Hill

The English postal reformer Rowland Hill was born in 1795 in Kidderminster (Worcestershire). His father managed a school in Birmingham. In 1807 Rowland Hill became a student-teacher at his father's school. As a sideline Rowland Hill was an inventor, although most of his ideas were never used.

De beste honderd artikelen uit deze jaren werden opgenomen in zijn nieuwe bundel met 'verzamelwoedes'. Voor 'Verzamelwoede 4' selecteerde Ruud van Capelleveen ook een aantal artikelen over de postzegelhandel die niet eerder werden gepubliceerd. Deze artikelen kunnen beschouwd worden als een aanvulling van zijn succesvolle uitgave 'Postzegels kopen en verkopen'.

Deze bundel bevat honderd columns over postzegels en het verzamelen van filatelistische stukken. Deze columns bestrijken een breed spectrum van de filatelie: naast een groot aantal achtergrondverhalen over basisbegrippen voor postzegelverzamelaars bevat deze bundel ook een aantal stukken waarin Ruud van Capelleveen zijn licht laat schijnen over postzegels, eerstedagenveloppen en allerlei andere onderwerpen die interessant zijn voor de waarachtig geïnteresseerde postzegelverzamelaar.
