Postage stamps of 9 May 2007
Finland Post issued a total of seventeen new stamps on 9 May 2007 in five separate issues. All the new stamps issued in May are for first class mail in Finland. Scouting was featured on two stamps, and stamp booklets featuring public transport and Moomins were issued, in which the former have four and the latter six stamps. All the new stamps issued in May 2007 bear postage for first class mail in Finland.Scouting on stamps
Scouting is this year's theme for the European postal operators' EUROPA stamps series. The scout movement was one hundred years old in 2007. The design for Finland's scouting stamps is by Susanna Rumpu and Ad Lakaniemi. One stamp shows three Girl Guides by a winter campfire in the fells of Lapland, and the other shows two Sea Scout boys and a girl sailing on the open sea in summer. The ideals of scouting - like developing yourself as a person, respect for others, and to love and conserve nature - are written on the edges of the stamp sheet. The margin also has a picture of a leather scout belt with the scouting motto: "Be prepared".
The stamps are photo collages, assembled and arranged on a computer. The photographers are Ari Lakaniemi (scout belt, Sea Scouts), Pekka Luukkola (sea and winter landscape), and Matti Lehto (the three girls). The Lowe-Matin group printers printed the stamps in Canada.
The scouting movement was founded in England in 1907, and in Finland it started in 1910. The Guides and Scouts of Finland is the largest youth organization in the country. It has 75,000 members.

Moomins are back on stamps
The new stamp booklet shows the members of the Moomin family spending a summer's day in their own way. Moominmamma is making pancakes, Moominpappa is using a typewriter on a rock in the middle of the lake, the Snork Maiden is picking flowers and Moomintroll is hopping on rocks on the shoreline with dragonflies at his heels. The booklet of six non-value indicator postage stamps also has stamps for Little My and Snufkin. Little My is floating in a reed bed on her stamp and Snufkin is shown dreaming among flowers. The stamp sheet is a collage arranged and colored on a computer, using drawings by artist and author Tove Jansson (1914-2001) from her book Moominsummer Madness and other sources. The booklet was designed and the drawings modified and adapted for the stamps by designer duo Susanna Rumpu and Ari Lakaniemi in cooperation with Oy Moomin Characters Ltd.
The Moomin stamps have been big hits with customers since the first ones were issued in 1992. The last time Finland Post issued a Moomin stamp was in 2004.
