Domfil stamp catalogue Chess
Catalogues and stamp albums
Domfil is a well known Spanish publisher of stamp catalogues and stamp albums. For both articles the firm specialized up till now in the thematic field, but recently the firm also publishes some country stamp catalogues.Catalogue for the collectors of Chess stamps
Some years ago Domfil created a catalogue for the collectors of Chess stamps. One of these days the second edition of this catalogue was emitted. In 92 pages the catalogue shows all the stamps of the world with a picture with a chess piece, about chess games or with a symbol about chess. The eldest chess stamp is the stamp of Bulgaria from 1947. This stamp was emitted due to the Balkan's Games. In a series of 4 stamps one of them was devoted to chess. Other countries followed this Bulgarian example and soon a new stamp collectors theme came into being.Text also in English
The text of the new Domfil catalogue is stated both in Spanish and in English. On page 1 the catalogue begins with Afghanistan. The last country on page 91 is Yugoslavia. After these pages follows an annual issues summary in which you can see that the eldest chess stamp indeed is from Bulgaria. The last stamps - of 2004 are from the countries Spain and Jersey. After these pages follows an alphabetical list of the countries (in Spanish as well as in English) in which chess stamps have been emitted and the page number on which you can find the chess stamps from a specific country.
For every emission you will find the title of the emission and the emission year and date. Every stamp is pictured with a reproduction at a 50% scale of the actual size. That is a little bit small but the pictures are in full colour and the reproductions are very good. Under the reproductions of the stamps you will find the data for the individual stamps. Only stamps with a chess theme are pictured here. Before every chess stamp is first the Domfil number mentioned, then the nominal value of the stamp and a short description of the stamp.
Beneath the individual stamps you will find - and that is very special - the numbers for the stamps from the famous catalogues Yvert & Tellier, Scott, Michell and sometimes Unificato. It is very handy for collectors that these catalogue numbers are mentioned here so they will have a bridge from their collectors theme to country stamp collections.
Domfil numbering
The Domfil numbering of the stamps consists of three letters for the country, the three last figures of the emission year and an order number. For example: the number BUL-947.27 corresponds to the 27th stamp of Bulgaria, issued in 1947. The countries are ordered in alphabetical order (of the Spanish names). Within a country the stamps are mentioned in a strict chronological order.Making use of the country table at the end of the catalogue you will for instance find the chess stamps of the Netherlands on page 49 under the country name Holanda and those of the German Federal Republic on page 2 under the country name Alemania Federal.
The market values of the chess stamps are quoted in Euros and in US dollars.
Collectors of chess stamps
For the collectors of chess stamps this catalogue is a very handsome one. The catalogue is an easy-reference manual; it gives enough information for the not-specialized collector. The reproductions are excellent. An important thing is that the catalogue stays flat when it is in use.You can get a copy of the catalogue from your local stamp dealer.
