The Compulatelist

From the Philatelic Computing Study Group (PCSG) we have received their quarterly magazine "The Compulatelist", July 1999, Whole No. 41, Vol.10 No.3. It is an interesting issue with a number of articles worth reading.

Philea Stamp Database

There is a review about the stamp database the "Philea Stamp Database", for which you can buy the database records for the country in which you are interested.
There is an announcement about the "Stamp Organizer Deluxe", version 1.1, which is now available. This database can also be used for other collections of data, using about the same structure. It is possible to change datafields for your own purposes.
A third database, "Stamp Works", v. 1.3, allows you among other things to make your own album pages.

Special member articles

This number of "The Compulatelist" contains special member articles as a member list (web-sites and e-mail addresses) and exhibition news.

GB Machins Database

An article for specialists is the announcement about the "GB Machins Database", which is available now. Thousands and thousands of records list single stamps, blocks, booklets and panes of British stamps with the famous design of Arnold Machin (the current definitive series in Great Britain bearing the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II). It is also possible to print album pages with all the data of the stamps.

Scanning used stamps

Finally there is a very interesting article about scanning used stamps. By manipulating the tools of your scanning software it is possible to eliminate the design of the stamp in order to make a reconstruction of the postmark or overprint.
