Public transport and Tampere Cathedral stamps 2007 Finland
Postage stamps of 9 May 2007
Finland Post issued a total of seventeen new stamps on 9 May 2007 in five separate issues. All the new stamps issued in May were for first class mail in Finland. Amongst those stamps were issues on the themes Public transport and the Tampere Cathedral.Public transport vehicles and services
Helsinki City Transport and the Helsinki Metropolitan Area Council hosted a major public transport event in Helsinki in May: the 57th world conference of the UITP (International Association of Public Transport). The conference was heralded by a public transport stamp booklet, with four self-adhesive 1st class non-value indicator stamps depicting the public transport vehicles and services of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. The first stamp in the booklet shows a low-floor Sm4 urban train which has just arrived at a covered platform in Helsinki railway station. The next stamp depicts a new tram on route 10 standing at the Korppaanmäki stop. The third stamp has an underground metro train speeding across the bridge over Vartiokylä Bay. The subject of the fourth stamp is the two-year-old Kamppi public transport terminal in downtown Helsinki, one of Europe's busiest. Each day, some 170,000 passengers pass through it.Kaisu Klemetti designed the stamp booklet. Jouko Leskelä took the photographs used on the stamps as well as the cover picture of the booklet, which shows a 3T tram at the Olympia quay stop.

Tampere Cathedral Centenary
Tampere Cathedral will be one hundred years old in May. The event is being commemorated with a special stamp designed by Ilona Ilottu, Petri Salmela and Eeva Sivula of Dog design. The picture area of the stamp is divided into two parts. The background of one section, in close-up, is the granite wall of the church and part of an Art Nouveau-inspired stylized dandelion console. On top of this the designers have placed a small, vignette-type overall view of the cathedral. On the other section of the stamp, we see a vertical view up to the starry vault, which bears the Snake Fresco by Hugo Simberg (1873-1917), which once stirred a vigorous debate and emotional responses.
The stamp will be issued on sheets of ten. The edges of the stamp sheet are decorated with a detail from the gallery rail fresco entitled the Garland Bearers, painted by Simberg.
Tampere Cathedral is a rugged masterpiece by architect Lars Sonck (1870-1956). It was built 1902-1907 as the Church of St John. It became a cathedral in 1923. The building is considered one of the major works of Finland's National Romantic-style architecture. The art in the church is the work of Magnus Enckell (1870-1925) and Hugo Simberg.

Finland Post became Itella
As of 1 June 2007, the name of Finland Post Corporation became Itella Corporation. At the same time, the entire Group became the Itella Group. The Post's consumer customers in Finland were not be affected by the change, as they will continue to be served under the name Posti. The change of name is based on the fact that, during recent years, the Finland Post has changed from a company conducting only postal services to one offering versatile data and material flow management services.
This change is also required by the internationalization of the Finland Post Corporation. In addition to Finland, the Group now operates in eight Northern European countries, accounting for 23 per cent of the net turnover. Companies and other organizations account for 95 per cent of the Group's turnover.
The Finnish consumer will hardly notice the change of name. In the future, post offices, mail carriers, mailboxes, consumer Internet sites and communication and marketing directed at consumers will bear the familiar and trusted name of Posti.
