Swiss Air Rescue stamps Switzerland 2002
Swiss Air rescue
Swiss Air rescue (REGA) is a charitable foundation, under the aegis of the Red Cross. As such, it abides by Red Cross principles and behaves it self as a non-profit organisation. The objective of REGA, being to provide people in emergency situations with fast, expert assistance from the air.Throughout Switzerland
With the exception of Canton Valais, air rescue throughout Switzerland is based almost exclusively on REGA's readiness and infrastructure. In this sense, it carries out a public task on a purely private basis, and does not cost the State a penny.Without its 1.6 million patrons this would not be possible, because their annual contributions cover almost two thirds of REGA's financial requirements.
