Ghent Flower Show

Since the Middle Ages, when globetrotters from Ghent brought along unknown plant species from their distant journeys, the history of this flourishing town has been linked with the history of floriculture, horticulture and ornamental plant cultivation.

Ghent gardeners

Clever Ghent gardeners succeeded in acclimatising some of these exotic plants, such as the tulip, the marigold, the iris and the lilac, and later on these plants spread over entire Europe.
The first flowers show of Ghent already attracted the crowds. It was organised in 1808 by the Society for Horticulture and Botany of Ghent and was the first of a long series.
A few years later, the organisers decided to organise the show every five years, starting in 1839.

Prince Philippe Fund

The Prince Philippe Fund, which aims at promoting exchanges between the communities, was created on 29th May 1998. Created in the footsteps of the King Baudouin Foundation, the Fund will take over and intensify some initiatives of the Foundation related to inter-community exchanges.
Through its actions, the Prince Philippe Fund pursues one main policy: to prompt the inhabitants of Belgium on an individual basis, but also on a collective basis to exchange experiences, cultural treasures, etc.
The Fund essentially aims at developing exchanges in the non-business sector by actively supporting private or public associations or institutions, which are active in the field of exchanges between communities.

Flower Booklet

André Buzin designed the new self-adhesive flower stamp, which will be available in a stamp booklet. The booklets contain ten "Zone A prior" stamps and the image shows three tulips.
The self-adhesive stamps remain valid in the future. The stamps' rate equals the tariff in force for a standardised letter (priority mail) up to 20 g. for the countries of the European Union (Zone A). At present the stamps are worth 21 francs.

De beste honderd artikelen uit deze jaren werden opgenomen in zijn nieuwe bundel met 'verzamelwoedes'. Voor 'Verzamelwoede 4' selecteerde Ruud van Capelleveen ook een aantal artikelen over de postzegelhandel die niet eerder werden gepubliceerd. Deze artikelen kunnen beschouwd worden als een aanvulling van zijn succesvolle uitgave 'Postzegels kopen en verkopen'.

Deze bundel bevat honderd columns over postzegels en het verzamelen van filatelistische stukken. Deze columns bestrijken een breed spectrum van de filatelie: naast een groot aantal achtergrondverhalen over basisbegrippen voor postzegelverzamelaars bevat deze bundel ook een aantal stukken waarin Ruud van Capelleveen zijn licht laat schijnen over postzegels, eerstedagenveloppen en allerlei andere onderwerpen die interessant zijn voor de waarachtig geïnteresseerde postzegelverzamelaar.
