Great Britain Christmas

Christianity

The last Christmas stamps of this Millennium celebrate the impact and influence that Christianity has had upon our history.

John Wesley

The 19p stamp pays tribute to John Wesley (1703-1791). This evangelist founded the Methodist movement in the Church of England.

King James Bible

The King James Bible is commemorated on the 26p stamp. The English-translated version of the Bible was published in 1611 under auspices of James I of England.

Pilgrimages

The 44p stamp commemorates the medieval traditions of pilgrimages. St. Andrews Cathedral was founded in 1144 and was one of the largest and finest church buildings in Britain. It was one of the most important centres of northwest Europe.

Birth of Christ

The birth of Christ (first Christmas) is presented on the 64p stamp.
For every stamp a different designer was assigned. The original artwork for the Christians' Tale stamps is on show at the British Library along with the remainder of the 1999 Millennium Collection. The exhibition is open seven days a week and runs until 18 January 2000.
