Wonderful postcards

The Belgian Post issued three wonderful postcards on the theme Belgian women of art.

Catharina van Hemessen

In Antwerp an exhibition is held this year with paintings made by women. At this exhibition five hundred years of painting by women is shown.
The Belgian Post issued three postcards on this theme.
Catharina van Hemessen (1528-1587) a self portrait in 1548. It is the eldest still existing self portrait painted by a women.

Jenny Montigny

Jenny Montigny (1875-1973) painted "Woman in Tub". She started to paint in the manner of her tutor Emile Claus, but developed her own style in later years.

Marthe Donas

Marthe Donas (1885-1967) painted "Still live" in 1917 in a way that many people recognize from the works of Picasso: cubism.
She had many important friends in the world of art as Brancusi, Archipenko and Duchamp. Many people think her role in this group is still underestimated.
