Aland

Wheat trade

On 19 March 1999 a stamp designed by the Australian painter Robert Carter was issued commemorating the double of Cape Horn by sailing ship "Pamir". During the 1930s the wheat trade between Australia and Europe reached it's peak. The Aland sailing ships were extremely busy crossing the big oceans.

The cowslip

This stamp, issued in co-operation with the Finnish Post is designed by Paavo Huovinen.
This flower is common only in Aland. In the Finland the flower is becoming increasingly rare. The cowslip is a perennial plant with a slender stem and a corolla with up to ten small yellow flowers.

Europe

This year Europe stamps are dedicated to national parks and nature reserves.
The island Idö has a sheltered position despite its location in the outer archipelago. The soil is particularly favourable for vegetation.
This stamp has a denomination in both Finnish marks and euro.

Perforation: 13 per 2 cm pseudo.
