Award for Eva Besnyö
Erich Salomon Award

In April Eva Besnyö from Amsterdam was awarded with the Erich Salomon Award 1999. This is the most important yearly German award granted by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Photographie (German Photography Foundation).
Eva Besnyö
Eva Besnyö was born in 1910 in Budapest. In Berlin she became assistant in a news agency. With the artist John Fernhout she escaped fascist Germany in 1932 and settled in The Netherlands.
Best woman-photographer of The Netherlands
Soon she was regarded to be the best woman-photographer of The Netherlands. She set the example for other photographers and has contributed a lot to Dutch photography.

Her photos have a distinguished sharpness and Eva puts much effort in making good quality prints. Her attention for details has been praised too.
Women suffrage
Most Dutch are familiar with her photos from the war and her reporting of women suffrage.
Stamp collectors are also familiar with some of the work of Eva, because she designed the Children 1947 issue of The Netherlands.
