Trees with airmail

Aerogram depicting the Wych Elm

Trees with airmail During 2002 a new three-year series of postal stationery items by Peter Bergström will start. The theme is trees and first out is an aerogram depicting the Wych Elm.

Ulmus glabra

Wych Elm (Ulmus glabra) is a large deciduous tree, which can live up to 500 years and grow to a height of 30 m. The wood of the elm is strong and beautiful and often used for furniture. The treetop is round-headed with pendulous branches.

Wych Elm grows in forest greens

The small, reddish flowers consist of both female and male parts and are gathered in clusters. The elm flowers in early spring with bare boughs. The fruits mature quickly and spread with the wind already in July. Wych Elm grows in forest greens and groves and is common in all of southern Scandinavia, but becomes more rare the further north you get.
