Finland Haapavitja Rapids
Domestic postage
On 2 April 2001 Finland issued a special stamp (5.40 mk) for domestic postage for letters up to 100 g. The stamp features the Haapavitja rapids, situated in the Ruunaa recreation area in Lieksa in eastern Finland. The rapids were photographed by Markku Tano, hailing from Lieksa himself.Stamp design
The stamp was designed by graphic designer Kaisu Klemetti. She also designed the FDC and First Day Cancellation for the stamp.Wilderness and tranquillity
The frothy rapids, the sense of wilderness, and the tranquillity of the woods surrounding all visitors, annually attract some 100,000 outdoor enthusiasts to the Ruunaa region. Each season makes the versatile area show a different, but always exciting face, and a host of opportunities for activities: the summer is for fishing, shooting rapids, and just walking, the winter is for skiing and organised day hikes.Europa stamp
The stamp is issued in the Europa series of all European postal administrations. The theme for this year is water, our natural resource.More information Postage Stamps
