On the road
Timeless cars

Six of New Zealand's most timeless cars feature on New Zealand Post's latest stamp issue of 1 June 2000. The six stamps in the On The Road issue feature a Volkswagen Beetle (40c), Ford Zephyr (80c), Morris Mini (1.10$), Holden HQ Kingswood (1.20$), Honda Civic (1.50$) and a Toyota Corolla (1.80$).
Six cars on stamps
The six post-war vehicles were selected with assistance from various motoring enthusiasts and authorities, based on the vehicles' contributions to motoring innovation and popularity.
Wendy Riley, Stamps Marketing Manager said: "You can tell New Zealanders love their cars by the number of people out washing them on weekends, and the time and effort that is put into their maintenance and care. It's not surprising that internationally this country rates as having one of the highest numbers of vehicles per head."

"New Zealand Post's last stamp issue featuring vintage cars was in 1972 and the "On The Road" stamps deal with some of the more recent additions to the motoring phenomenon which gripped New Zealanders in the post-war period."
